Giles Arthur “Art” Abbe, 97

Giles Arthur “Art” Abbe, age 97 of Waterville, passed away on the evening of Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.

Born in Waseca County on June 29, 1926, Giles was the son of William and Emma (Kabnick) Abbe. Giles married Betty Ann Scholer on January 15, 1950, in Waterville. They made their home in Waterville where he worked in construction, and later he was employed at Mengelkoch Rendering Company in New Brighton until his retirement.  He enjoyed working, caring for his garden, animals and birds, visiting with friends and family, caring for the less fortunate in any way he could, and touring the country side.

Giles is survived by three children, Josephine Stencel of Waseca, Paul Abbe of Waterville, and Giles (Stacy) Abbe of Waterville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Scholer of Austin, and Elaine Scholer of Waterville; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann; a daughter, Kathleen Aanas; and a son-in-law, Mark Stencel.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
