LaVonne Helen Bertha Matz, 76

LaVonne Helen Bertha Matz, age 76, of rural Waterville, died on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on September 1, 1945, in Waseca to Henry E. and Helen B. (Buchholz) Matz. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith in her youth all at St. Peter “Bell” Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. LaVonne received her education first at St. Peter “Bell” Lutheran parochial school and later graduated from Waterville – Elysian High School. She worked at E.F. Johnson Company for 25 years and in 1991, LaVonne began working for Camp Omega, retiring in 2016. In her early years she enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. LaVonne also enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting and crafts. In recent years, she took a special liking to caring for her animals which included cats, ducks, and chickens. LaVonne was a lifelong member of St. Peter “Bell” Lutheran Church.

LaVonne is survived by her brother, Wayne (Elaine) Matz of rural Waterville; nephews: Mike Matz of rural Waterville and Jim Matz of Hayward, MN; cousins: Dale (Monica) Buchholz, Gene Buchholz, Daniel Buchholz, and Shirley (John) Hager; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at St. Peter “Bell” Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery – German Lake. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
