Rohn Duane Halvorson, 70

Rohn Duane Halvorson, age 70 of Elysian, died on the morning of Monday, October 21, 2024, at Oaklawn Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Rohn was born in Madison, Minnesota, on March 10, 1954, to parents Clayton and Jenevieve (Moseng) Halvorson. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church, both in Madison. He attended school in Madison before serving in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge from the service he attended Willmar Community College and later graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in criminal justice. On October 21, 1978, Rohn was married to Paula Jaus in Gibbon, Minnesota. Rohn worked as a police officer in Montevideo and retired as Sergeant after a career spanning thirty years with that department. He enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, camping, traveling, reading, playing Farkle and marbles, and spending quality time with his friends and family. He was a member of the Elysian American Legion Post #311, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.

Rohn is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula of Elysian; four children, Erik Halvorson and his partner Brittnay Weerts of Montevideo, Kendra Halvorson of Brooklyn Park, Keira (John) Nicholson of Lakeville, and Kurt Halvorson of Duluth; eight grandchildren, Hailey Halvorson, Daija Halvorson, Miley Tweeter, Marilyn Olson, Aubrey Halvorson, Finlay Nicholson, August Nicholson, and Wesley Halvorson; and two siblings, DeLain Engebretson of Dawson, and Rick (Barbara) Halvorson of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a niece, Kari Engebretson.

Rohn’s family would like to extend their thanks to all the family, friends, church leaders, medical staff, and care-center staff that cared so deeply for Rohn. Your time, expertise, and grace was greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Rev. David Mumme and Vicar Mark Langton officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville or the Elysian American Legion Post #311.

A private family interment service will be held at Ness Lutheran Cemetery in Madison, Minnesota. Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waterville is handling the arrangements. dsofuneral.com
