Second half struggles hurt Bucs in losses at TCU Tourney

Second half scoring woes were the key to a pair of losses for the WEM boys basketball team Thursday, and Friday last week in the Tri City United Holiday Tournament.

The Bucs trailed TCU 29-28 at halftime Thursday, Dec. 29 but managed only 21 second half points in a 68-49 loss. Kenyon-Wanamingo (KW) limited the Bucs to 12 points in the second half of their 67-34 win.

In the game against TCU, there were five times and nine lead changes in the opening half. The Bucs stayed close throughout the second half. A three-pointer by Gabe Androli pulled WEM to within four (36-32) and later a basket by Talen Taylor again trimmed the TCU lead to four (40-36) eight minutes into the second half.

With seven minutes to play, a field goal and two free throws by Gavin Brown got the Bucs as close as they would be the remainder of the game, trailing 49-43. From this point on, the Titans scored 15 straight points to build a 64-43 lead.

Three Buccaneers scored in double figures, led by Brown with 21 points. He hit three, three-pointers, made 6-of-7 free throws, and added five rebounds. Androli played all 36 minutes and finished with 12 points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Taylor scored 10 points and added seven rebounds. Caleb Caron also added five rebounds.
