Waterville Lions Club celebrates 80th Anniversary

Eighty short years ago a new club was chartered in Waterville and since that date in January of 1945, the Waterville Lions Club has been one of the finest organizations not only in Waterville, but in the State of Minnesota.

The Lions Club observed their 80th year with an event recently at Classic’s Pub in Waterville. Dozens of people attended the event, which featured awarding some of their longest serving members with awards.

Curt Bohlen was honored for being a member for the past 50 years.

Current Waterville Lions Club officers include Joe Christenson (President), Kim Brown (Secretary), Troy Wetzel (Treasurer), Paul Eich (1st Vice President), Andrea Tangen (2nd Vice President and Lion Tamer), Bob Gress (Tail Twister), Chrissy Christenson (Gambling Manager), and Margie Jacobson (Past President).

Board of Directors include John Scholljegerdes, Pat Scholljegerdes, Bob Gress, and Jennifer Grobe.

How it all began for the Waterville Lions

The City of Waterville, in effect, owes Faribault a huge debt of gratitude! It was the Faribault Lions Club, back in 1945 that helped organize the Waterville Lions Club.

It was in January of that year that, with the aid of the Faribault Lions, a group of Waterville businessmen, farmers, and residents of the Waterville area got together and formed what has become the Waterville Lions Club. Since that time the local Lions Club has donated untold (hundreds of) thousands of dollars towards the betterment of this community.
