Waterville new police chief not new to community

For nearly a decade, Robert Petrasek has served the City of Waterville as a police officer.

Three months ago his position was elevated to the Waterville Chief of the Police, after serving as the interim for two months following the resignation of former police chief John Manning.

Becoming a police chief was something Petrasek wanted to accomplish in his law enforcement career.

“I have always thought of moving up, taking over a larger role, it always was a goal (of mine,” he said. “I saw myself there some day. This came a little quicker than I thought.”

Petrasek graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement.

He started as a part-time officer in Gaylord in 2013 and started part-time in Waterville in October of 2014. He was moved to fulltime the next year and worked the night shift for approximately two years. There was also a period of time he worked at the jail in Le Sueur County.

He then served as the school liasion officer at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Schools for five years before being named interim...
