WEM athletes advance to Class A State Track & Field Meet

Seven WEM track and field standouts will be representing the school district at the 2025 Class A State Meet Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Three of these Buccaneers will be making their third appearance at State. One is making his second trip. Three are making their first trip. All athletes advanced after placing either first or second at the Section 2A Meet held Saturday, May 31 at Mankato West.

Seniors Ashlyn Pelant and McKenna Schuster, and junior Addison Condon are returning to State for the third time. Sophomore Gavin Atherton is advancing for the second time. Senior Loryn Caldwell, junior Grady Grohman, and seventh grader Rachel Mielke will be making their first appearances.

Pelant will compete in the shot put for the third straight season after winning the Section 2A Championship with a toss of 37-feet 8 1/2-inches. This year she will compete against 16 others and her qualifying distance is seventh. The top qualifier is junior Brooklyn Mitchell of LaCrescent-Hokah with a toss of 42-feet, 7 1/4-inches.

Condon will compete in three events - long jump, triple jump, and 4 x 100-meter relay. She was a State runner-up in the long jump as a sophomore and placed ninth as an eighth grader. Her qualifying distance of 17-feet, 5-inches is seventh out of 23 jumpers. The top qualifying distance was turned in by defending State Champion Math & Science Academy sophomore McKaylen Lewis...
