Wesley benefit is Saturday

A benefit will be held this Saturday at the American Legion in Morristown to help raise funds for the family of Stephanie Wesley, the 52-year-old Faribault woman who was struck by a Rice County Sheriff’s deputy patrol car on Highway 60 in Morristown around 2 a.m. on January 29 and died at the scene.

Wesley’s long-time friend Ashley Bright of Morristown is helping organize the benefit.

“Steph was like a second mom to me,” Bright stated. “She was a wonderful mom, grandma, and friend… She is truly missed, and not knowing what really happened to her that night makes it really tough.”

Bright learned of Wesley’s death just hours after it occurred. “We were shocked,” she stated. “You can literally see where it happened from my back door, and we didn’t even hear the sirens.”

A few hours later, Bright connected with Wesley’s daughter, Samantha Jensen of Faribault, and other close friends of Wesley’s and visited the site where Wesley had died. They located remnants of Wesley’s blue highlighted hair and cell phone.

“It was horrible… really upsetting to see those things just lying there,” Bright stated.
