Fall Fling benefits wildlife preserve

A 446-acre park in Le Sueur County will benefit from a fundraiser held in Montgomery on Sunday.

The Ney Nature Center (NNC) was the focus of the 13th annual Fall Fling, the nature preserve’s largest fundraiser of the year. It attracted people from around the county who are dedicated to the NNC’s mission of preservation of the natural state of its surroundings, restoring and preserving the buildings of historical significance, and engaging the greater community in connecting with the natural world.

At the start of the event which was held at the Revival on Main and Rustic Farmer, Doug Thomas, president of the NNC Board, said the park has been thriving recently, despite the pandemic, and the staff is doing a great job keeping up with everything.

“We’ve seen record attendance at the park. The staff has been so great at keeping everything going,” he said.

Through innovative and interactive programming, the NNC’s goal is to bring generations together and connect them with the natural world. Thomas, who lives in Henderson, said he finds that connection when he goes to the park to walk the trails.

“I have discovered that it is a place for more than physical exercise, but it’s a spiritual and emotional one too,” he said.

One hundred and fortyeight people came to the Fall Fling. Eva Clelland, Programs Coordinator for the Center, said they were happy with the turnout.

“Compared to previous years, this is very comparable! Especially since we didn’t have one last year,” she said.
