John G. Smisek, 77

John G. Smisek, age 77, of Le Center, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Central Health Care in Le Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 14, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Le Center Funeral Home in Le Center. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, at 10 a.m. with visitation held one hour prior at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Le Center. Interment will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery.

John was born on August 1, 1947, to Adam and Virgie (Miller) Smisek. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in Le Center and a 1965 graduate of McKinley High School in Le Center and Mankato Vocational Technical School as a Tool Maker Machinist. John was united in marriage to Susie Krocak on October 12, 1968, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery.

He enjoyed being a firearm safety instructor for over 40 years in Le Center. He spent a lot of time hunting with his kids and grandkids. Loved being in the tractor and helping with farming. He was an active member of Pioneer Power where he also held positions on the board, as a director and vice president. He was an avid Czech collector and supporter of Czech events. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sporting events.

John is survived by his wife, Susie, of Le Center; children, Mark Smisek of Waterville, Peter (Denise) Smisek of Otsego, and Anne (Andy) Jans of Waterville; son-in-law, David Domonoske of Waterville; grandchildren, Meghan (Jerrod) Novotny, Haley (Adam) Fjerstad, Zachary Smisek, Gavin Smisek, Alex Smisek, Lauren Smisek, Clayton Jans, Alenka Jans, and Wyatt Jans; honorary granddaughter, Anne Schreiber; 1 expected soon great-grandchild; sisters, Ellen (Randy) Picka of Morton and Dorene Edwards of Le Sueur.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy; twin brother, Donald in infancy; and his parents.
