Anya Menk creates original jazz studio album

Anya Menk, a 2018 graduate of Tri-City United High School and 2022 graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, recently completed her first jazz studio album.

It’s really nothing less than you would expect from a family of musicians. Her mother, Robyn, was one of The Sapp Sisters and is a musician that you may have seen accompanying at TCU concerts or performing at a local church. Her father, Carl, owned his own his own production company for 20 years, Syntrak Studios, and he revitalized for his daughter’s album. He is also Tri-City United Schools Information Technology Director and is often found in the high school’s performing arts center’s booth during shows.

The Album

Anya said she originally was going to release a single and then she quickly changed that to wanting to release an EP. When she brought this idea to the attention of her father in the summer of 2022, Carl said, “I feel like and EP is today’s excuse for not telling a larger story. I encouraged her all along. You have more songs you are working on. Why don’t you just make an album?”

“Definitely during the planning stage we went through a lot of different ideas of what the album could be,” Anya said, “I’m like, ‘I’m ready. Let’s do it,’ I wanted certain people and thoughts, inner thoughts, portrayed, which is why it is called ‘Inner Voice.’” Anya says she places herself in the jazz genre and some of her...
