Council narrows locations for new police facility
The Montgomery City Council held a workshop on Monday. It’s only agenda item: discuss a new police facility.
Among the things the council talked about were locations for the department, new construction or remodel an existing building. Each member was given homework to search the city for possible locations.
City Administrator Brian Heck said he met with Chief Nathan Hintz and Sergeant Pete Bulger prior to the meeting about what the department needs. Hintz emphasized having a central location and felt the city-owned land north of the existing department (facing Traditions of Montgomery) would be the best place.
“I feel construction would be the most effective and cost efficient,” he said. “Where the PD is located is the best position. It’s centrally located and convenient.”
The council considered at least ten locations: existing location, 100 Linden Avenue (Schwan’s building), 100 block of Ash Ave SW - across from City Hall, water/waste treatment plant, 103 Elm Ave. SW (former bank), 104 Oak Ave. SW (former Ace store), 100 Milwaukee Avenue, First Street North and Vine Avenue, the school-owned bus garage by TCU Montgomery...
