It’s official: City and school board elections to have races

The race is on for seats on the Montgomery City Council and TriCity United School Board after filing periods closed Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Montgomery City Council

The City Council race will have two elections. One will be for two seats with four-year terms each that are being held by Mick McGuire and Brad “Butch” Kubes.

Four people have filed for that election, McGuire, Zack Matson, Daniel Siebsen, and Dennis Smith.

The city will also have a special election to fill the remainder of the four-year term held by Joy Svoboda who was elected in 2020 but who moved outside of city limits in November 2021. After interviewing three candidates, one of whom was Dennis Smith, the council appointed Dennis Lambrecht in November 2021 to the seat until December 31, 2022.

Voters in the special election will determine who holds the two-year seat. On the ticket will be Lambrecht and Kubes.

Mayor Tom Eisert has also filed for re-election. He is running unopposed.

Tri-City United School Board The TCU School will also have a race at the November 8 election. The four seats up for election will have a field of five candidates on the ballot. Josh Beulke, Marsha Franek, and Cindy Flicek have all filed to keep their seats, while school board member Dale Buss did not file for re-election. Other contenders for the four-year positions are Hilary Birdsell of Montgomery and Jessi Schau of Lonsdale.

Lanesburgh Township All of the seats for Lanesburgh Township are being held by incumbents who are running unopposed. The seats and candidates are: Supervisor B - 4-year term - 1 person filed - Mark Verhoeven Supervisor C - 4-year term - 1 person filed - Tony Kubes Treasurer - 4-year term- 1 person filed - Rosemary Rynda
