Schmiesing sets school record in 200 IM
TCU junior Ella Schmiesing set a new school record and her teammates combined to defeat Math and Science Academy, 65-32 Thursday, Aug. 29.
Schmiesing’s record was in the 200 IM in a time of 2:18.23. The new record breaks the mark set by Mallorie Plut.
“The girls did great and had several personal records,” head coach Kristen Denzer said. “Many girls were right around the time where they ended last season. I know everyone would love a time drop to meet one, but if you can start close to where you ended, we are on a great start to the season.”
Winning events were Schmiesing in the 100-yard freestyle (56.08), sophomore Ella Ruiz Sustaita in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.45), senior Julie Odenthal in the 500-yard freestyle (8:29.96), and freshman McKenna Fredrickson in the 200-yard freestyle (2:31.23).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Schmiesing, junior Kendra Westphal, sophomore Madelyn Ryan, and eighth grader Kaylee Rezac placed first in 2:18.89.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Rezac, Fredrickson, Ruiz Sustaita, and sophomore Teagan Valek were winners in 2:10.51.
The Titans will return to the pool Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m. when they will compete in the Mankato East Invitational.
