TCU H.S. returns to hybrid learning model

Due to a spike in number of coronavirus cases and quarantined students, TCU High School is returning to a hybrid learning model.

Superintendent Lonnie Seifert made the announcement Thursday after six confirmed covid-19 cases were reported, and 86 students were quarantined due to being identified as close contacts since Tuesday.

That total represents 18 percent of the high school population.

He added those numbers may increase because the district is waiting on other test results.

After discussing it with Le Sueur County Public Health, Seifert said the high school will return to the hybrid learning starting Monday, March 1. The move is almost two weeks from when they returned to all-day, in-person learning from the hybrid model.

This marks the third time this school year the students will be changed to a hybrid learning model.

“Out of extreme caution for the safety of our students and staff, TCU High School will have in-person learning tomorrow, Friday, February 26th and then transition back to a Hybrid Model of Instruction for grades 9-12 beginning on Monday, March 1st” Seifert said.

This transition does not impact on the current model of instruction for TCU’s PreK to eighth grade students.

Seifert said the high school cases came into the high school and were not transmitted within the building, and the administration will continue to watch the hybrid learning model and case count.

“We will continue to monitor the building health and make any decision regarding learning models based on the data we have in front of us,” he said. “There is no set timeline for moving back to in-person instruction.”

He said the high school will remain on its normal daily schedule with a start time of 7:50 a.m. The high school hybrid model will have some changes to the expectations for students quarantined and/or on their off days.

“The specific details of these expectations will be coming from the high school administration within the next day. Students will need to be consistent with checking into their classes remotely in order to stay on top of the materials in their classes,” he added.
