Rice County officials are continuing to respond to a fire at the county’s landfill solid waste facility at East 145th Street in rural Dundas. The fire began in the landfill portion of the solid waste facility shortly after it closed for the evening on Monday, May 22.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but with assistance from state and local agencies, work is ongoing to mitigate any and all issues within the county’s control.

To ensure the safety of the public and Rice County employees, the Solid Waste Facility, including the landfill and recycling center, will remain closed to non-licensed haulers through Monday, May 29.

In the meantime, Rice County residents who need to dispose of household items may use one of the licensed haulers listed on the county’s website.

Rice County has created a new page on its website, ricecountymn.gov/694/Landfill-fire-updates, where the latest information on the situation, all press releases and other relevant information can be found.
