The Le Sueur County Commissioners cast their votes Tuesday, April 6 for their top candidates for the county administrator position.
The board was presented a list of nine candidates by DDA Human Resources Management Consultant Liza M. Donabauer, who has been working on the hiring process for the county.
The position was posted February 17 and four weeks later 30 individuals had applied. 14 of those applicants were selected as semifinalists. Of those, five withdrew their applications.
The board has had a chance to review a number of different informational items about the candidates. Tuesday they selected their top four among the remaining nine.
Two of the applicants received five votes, one received four, and one received three commissioner votes. These four will be interviewed by staff and the commissioners, with a fifth candidate named as alternate.
The names of the candidates were not publicly announced during the meeting, but two of the candidates are from between 180 and 230 miles away and the other two are less than 100 miles away.
There was a brief discussion as to whether or not the county would pay any sort of reimbursement to the finalists and it was determined none would be provided.
Interviews will be set up in the near future and the names of those interviewed will be available at that time.
In other Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners business:
• A public hearing was held pertaining to repairs on County Ditch 43. Assessments on this ditch system were also discussed.
After more than a 75 minute presentation, which included public comment, the board recessed from the public hearing portion of the meeting until April 20 when they will consider taking action on the project.
• The board approved a bid of more than $34,000 for ditch spraying. The portion of the county which will be sprayed includes the Montgomery, Kilkenny, Waterville, and Elysian areas.
A letter will be sent to all landowners affected by the spraying, in order to determine areas which property owners do not want sprayed or mowed this year.
This is the third year the county has sprayed ditches and mowed ditches within the county. The county was split into three areas, with this southern portion of the county being the last one to receive the treatments.
Ditch Specialist Nik Kadel said he will determine what course of action they will use in the upcoming years on county ditches.
• David Tiegs was re-appointed as the Le Sueur County Engineer.
