April weather rains on annual Swap Meet

Nearly an inch of rain and gusts of winds exceeding 40 miles per hour did not stop vendors and attendees from making it out to the 45th annual Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Swap Meet over the weekend.

“I love it,” said Linda Friesz of New Prague. “The weather makes it more fun.”

Friesz said that she loves being a part of the swap meet both as a member of the Credit River Tractor Club selling raffle tickets and being a customer shopping at the wide variety of booths whose vendors sell everything from hand crafted items to scrap metal to antiques and more.

She even bought a camper last year especially for this swap meet so that she could enjoy the festivities and camaraderie all day and night.

“We partied hard Saturday night,” Friesz said.

On Sunday she bought a congratulatory greeting card and necklace for her college aged daughter who recently won a writing competition. The necklace said “Keep Calm and Write On.”

“How great is it to find this,” she said, adding that it was neat to talk to and learn more about the person who hand made the greeting card, Rosemary Shippy.

Shippy, who is from Ivanhoe, Minnesota, said that making these rubber-stamped greeting cards is a great passion of hers.
