A total reconstruction of MN 13 in Montgomery from just south of Milwaukee Avenue to just north of Tri-City United High School and a roundabout at Le Sueur County 28 and MN 13 will happen this summer.

The estimated $6.5 million project calls for almost no changes to the existing road in Montgomery other than minor movements of a few items, such as a fire hydrant relocation at Lexington Avenue. New street lighting will be installed and improvements to pedestrian paths to better accommodate Americans with Disabilities Act will happen along the project area as well.

Between New Prague and Montgomery, a roundabout will be constructed at Le Sueur County 28 and MN 13. A snow fence northwest of the roundabout will also be erected as part of it.

The detour for this project takes you through Montgomery on 5th Street East and along Le Sueur County 144 to New Prague. The projects are expected to be fully completed in 2023. Businesses will still have access during construction.

A part of the 10-year street improvement plan, a large area just east of the grain elevator will be receiving major construction and improvements. Construction is expected to start in April with substantial completion by the end of October.

The estimated $5.5 million project, approved for bids by the city council in January, includes sections of First Street NE through Fourth Street NE, Mill Avenue, and Linden Avenue.

All streets will undergo total reconstruction except for Fourth Street NE and east thereof on Mill and Linden Avenues from there, which will receive only a pavement resurface. Bids for this project are now open.

Montgomery City Engineer Jason Femrite, PE, from Bolten & Menk, Inc., said, “I’m really happy with the plan that’s come together.”
