Bulldogs, Coyotes and Mudcats win on opening weekend in DRS

Union Hill, Shakopee and Prior Lake were winners in an abbreviated opening day schedule Sunday, April 29, in the Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league. Three other games scheduled for Sunday were postponed due to field conditions.

Bulldogs 4, Warriors 3 Veseli hosted Union Hill to kick off their season. Union Hill manager John Masberg said both teams had the usual early-season problems, as pitchers dominated hitters. Union Hill scored four runs on five hits and two Veseli errors. Bryan Lindner, Dust Steinhoff, Conrad Masberg and Jesse Bastyr collected hits for Union Hill. Corey Fridges, Tyler Busch, Nate Novak and Travis Vikla had hits for Veseli. Daniel Feneis pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out 15. Ben Doerr pitched six innings to take the loss, while Bryan Schmitz threw three innings of relief. They combined for 10 strikeouts.

Coyotes 9, Sox 0 Cody Pamperin allowed five hits over five innings and Josh Dvorak threw four hitless innings of relief as Shakopee defeated Webster 9-0. Zak Hoffman had three hits and two RBIs, while Lance Buchtel and Henry Henk had two hits each for the Coyotes. Webster had hits from Brent Cheney, Brooks Prochaska, Zach Johnson, Jake Ekness and Jeff Fredrickson. Three Webster pitchers combined to allow 14 hits while striking out four.

Mudcats 12, Express 8 Prior Lake scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead and held on for a 12-8 win over Elko. Ben Morrison was the star of the game for the Mudcats, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks, driving in four runs. He also got the win on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five. Justin Hackett and Johnny Houston pitched in relief. Houston had three hits and Jake Lehrer had two. Elko had two hits and three RBIs from TJ Evanson, while Kyle Kraska and Jacob Miller had two hits each. Andrew Lyke took the loss, with Glenn Parker and Mike Mehlich pitching in relief.
