David Allen Halvorson, 74

David Allen Halvorson, age 74, of New Prague, MN, died on Wednesday August 11, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family after 14-month battle with leukemia. David was born on November 14, 1946 in Morristown, MN, to Bernard and Adeline [Schmidtke] Halvorson. He married Julie Novotny on June 22, 1968 in New Prague, MN, and was married for 46 years.

Though aN MD by trade ("Meat Doctor" as he liked to joke, AKA meat cutter), Dave had many hobbies and a talent for woodworking. He carefully carved and created many intricate pieces of art, ornaments, and clocks that decorated the walls of his home. Dave was a "do-er" and always knew either how to fix something or who you could call to do it for you. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and spending time outside, spending time with those he loved, attending his grandchildren's events and activities, telling jokes, and eating donuts at the bakery. He had a knack for making roasts at Christmas and enjoyed a good bowl of ice cream.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife Julie [Novotny] Halvorson, passed in 2014; his parents Bernard and Adeline [Schmidtke] Halvorson. He is survived by his children, Dan Halvorson (Lesley) and Michelle [Halvorson] Deysach; his grandchildren, Catie [Deysach] Young (Trevor), Elizabeth [Deysach] Crandall (Tom), Christopher Deysach, Sarah Deysach, Mary Halvorson, and Danny Halvorson; his friend Darlene Ruhland; and many close friends and extended family.

As part of David's last wishes, in lieu of a formal service, a casual celebration of life will be held on August 22 outside his home in New Prague from noon-3 pm.  Memorials given to the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery Fund are preferred.
