Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Sticha, 94

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Sticha, age 94, died Sunday May 30, 2021 at NC Little Hospice in Edina.

                Betty was a bouncing baby girl, born to Ladimir and Anna (Donnelly) Benes on February 17, 1927, St. Patrick, Cedar Lake Township.

                She graduated from New Prague High School in 1943 and completed Le Center Teacher’s Training where she graduated in 1944. She taught for 3 years before meeting the love of her life, Frank Sticha.  They were married at St. Patrick’s Church September 1st, 1947.  The couple farmed for 5 years and then moved to New Prague where she still resided.

                Betty attended Mankato Teachers College and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She did this through summer school and night classes. She taught first through eighth grades at six rural schools. Betty then taught second grade at New Prague Elementary School after they consolidated rural schools.  She was a member of Retired Teachers of New Prague since 1983, after teaching over 35 years.

                Frank and Betty became lifetime members of Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association in 1983.  She served as Director of the Board from 1989 through 1998 and Secretary from 1998 to 2004.

On August 14, 2005 Betty lost the love of her life, Frank Sticha.

                She is survived by nieces, Winnie (Dennis) Simon of New Prague, Mary (John) Horejsi of Lonsdale, Denise (Rolf) Haaland of Faribault, Doreen (Melvin) Hogan of Le Center and Bernadine (Tom) Henderson of Victoria; and nephews, Ladimir (Megan) Benes of Walters, Martin Benes of Minneapolis and Merle Benes of New Prague; and many great nieces and nephews.

                She is preceded in death by her husband Frank; sister, Mary (& Tom) Franek; brother, Ladimir (& Bernadine) Benes, Jr.; niece Luann Barta; nephews, Lyle Benes and Richard Franek; grandparents Matt and Margaret Donnelly, and Joe and Mary Benes; parents-in-law Frank and Rose Sticha; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from Pioneer Power and former Teachers.

                Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday June 7, and Tuesday June 8, 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.

                Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Union Hill with burial in the Czech National Cemetery in New Prague.

                In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Pioneer Power Association, St. John’s Catholic Church or NC Little Hospice.
