James Jabas, 72

James Edward Jabas, age 72, of Montgomery, died on Friday, July 20, 2018 at his home in Montgomery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 4pm-8pm at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:30am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with visitation 1 hour prior at church. Father George Grafsky and Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Burial will be held in St. Catherine’s of Spring Lake 4500 220th St. E. Prior Lake. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.

Jim was born on May 1, 1946 in Little Falls to Leonard and Doloria (Marx) Jabas. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School. Jim served in the US Army during Vietnam. Jim worked for the International Operating Engineers local 49 Union as a backhoe operator. Jim was united in marriage to Shirley Gust on January 3, 1970 in Sobieski, MN. After her passing in 1993, Jim was again united in marriage to Karen (Mornson) Pink on October 12, 1996 in Shakopee, MN.

Jim was a member of the VFW Post 5340 in Montgomery, Veterans Honor Guard, KC 3rd degree, and Pioneer Power Association.  He enjoyed portraying as Abraham Lincoln at various events, winter and summer fishing at the cabin up north, hunting, and time with kids and grandkids. Jim was a man who gave everything in life. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. Jim enjoyed tinkering in his shed, loved the outdoors, hunting and most of all fishing. He was the kind of friend you’d want to be and want to have. He will be missed dearly.

Jim is survived by his wife, Karen Jabas of Montgomery; children, Jennifer (Jeff) Schneider of New Prague, Rebecca Stuber of Rochester, Anna (Nathan) Hoy of New Prague, and Paul Jabas of Montgomery; grandchildren, Thomas Schneider, Shelby (Malachi) Mlinar, Kayla Hennen, Eric Hoy, William Hoy, Samantha Hoy, and Zak Jabas; siblings, Mary Ann (Claude) Strauch of Richville, Richard Jabas of Forest Lake, Millie (Rick) Binkley of Zimmerman, Diane (Tony Vincent) Jabas of Fairview, TN, Mike (Maggie) Jabas of Kilkenny, and Kevin (Maxine) Jabas of Little Falls;

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Shirley (Gust) Jabas; and sister-in-law, Judy Jabas.
