New Market wins DRS regular season crown

The Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league regular season concluded Sunday, July 22, and the final standings have New Market, St. Patrick, Union Hill and New Prague earning byes into the Region 3C Tournament. Eight other teams will play best-of-three series this week for the other four spots in the region tournament, which will be a double-elimination affair beginning Sunday, July 29.

Playoff series began Tuesday, July 24. Game two of each series is scheduled for Thursday, July 26. Games scheduled are: Veseli vs. St. Benedict at Veseli (St. Benedict home) 7 p.m., Webster at Faribault, 7:30 p.m., Montgomery at Lonsdale, 7:30 p.m. and Prior Lake at Shakopee, 7:30 p.m.

Results and pairings for the region tournament will be posted on the league’s website and at newpraguetimes.com.

Tuesday, July 17 Lakers 6, Orioles 0 Jack Helgeson pitched a complete game shutout for Faribault as the Lakers defeated New Prague 6-0. Helgeson struck out 10 batters in the win. No other details were available.

Mudcats 4, Coyotes 1 Topher Rose allowed four hits and one run over eight innings and Jonny Houston pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save as Prior Lake defeated Shakopee 4-1. Houston also had three hits for the Mudcats and Corbin Cross had two. Jesse Nystrom pitched eight innings and took the loss for Shakopee. Zak Hoffman’s solo home run provided the Coyotes their lone run.

Wednesday, July 18 Mallards 4, Irish 2 Trevor Smisek picked up the win for Montgomery, going eight innings giving up one earned run on 13 strike outs as the Mallards defeated St. Patrick 4-2. Robbie Marshall picked up the save for the Mallards. Josh Simon went seven innings for St. Patrick and gave up one earned run in the loss. The game was tied 1-1 when the Mallards scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, all unearned with 2 outs. Dom DeLuca had a double and an RBI for St. Patrick. For Montgomery, Tom Flicek had two hits and scored twice, Brad Flicek had two hits, Mike Flicek had a hit and three RBIs and Eric Iverson had a hit and an RBI.

Mudcats 9, Sox 3 A five-run second inning propelled Prior Lake to a 9-3 win over Webster. Skylar Pumper pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out five. Prior Lake had two hits each from Jonny Houston, Cole Bjorge, Jake Lehrer, Matt Schmidt and Levi Schneider. Houston had three RBIs. Webster’s Jeremy Wieland pitched nine innings and took the loss. Marcus Pleiss had two hits and two RBIs.

Coyotes 5, Aces 4 Shakopee scored two runs in the seventh inning for a 5- 4 come-from-behind win over Lonsdale. The Coyotes had three hits from Henry Henk and two each from Alec Pauly, Zak Hoffman and Nicholas Warren. Matt Griebel got the win, pitching 3-1/3 innings of relief of Andy Lazzari. Daniel Turner pitched two innings of relief and took the loss. Trevor Smrekar had three hits for the Aces and Phil Tisdel had two. Jack Skluzacek homered for Lonsdale.

Bulldogs 4, Lakers 0 Eric Bisek had a two-run homer and Bryan Lindner and Dusty Steinhoff each had two hits to lead Union Hill to a 4-0 win over Faribault. Nathan Berg picked up the win, going 5-1/3 innings, with Dan Feneis and Conrad Masberg pitching in relief. Matt Lane took the loss for the Lakers.

Thursday, July 19 Lakers 5, Warriors 1 Dylan Valentine and Derek Ritter had two hits each as Faribault defeated Veseli 5-1. Valentine and Joey Grote each had two RBIs in the game. Tyler Francis picked up the win, going 6-1/3 innings. Grote pitched in relief. Together they combined for nine strikeouts. Matt Perkinson went eight innings in the loss. He also had two hits, including a double. Nate Novak also had two hits for the Warriors.

Mudcats 8, Saints 2 Jake Lehrer had two hits, including a homer, and four RBIs as Prior Lake defeated St. Benedict 8-2. Brad Schoenrock and Alex Waterman also had two hits for the Mudcats. Watterman was the winning pitcher, going five innings. Andrew Huss, Scott Eischens and Michael Pauly had two hits each for the Saints. Paul Hentges took the loss in relief.

Friday, July 20 Orioles 12, Aces 2 New Prague defeated Lonsdale 12-2 with Bryce Novak picking up the win throwing all seven innings. Zack Clark, Eric Wagner, Austin Bachman, James Fuerniss, Dan Shetka and Aaron Kes all recorded two hits for the Orioles. Bachman hit a two-run homer run in the first inning. For the Aces Cole Pint had a pair of hits including a double, Daniel Turner and Thomas Hoppert also both had hits and scored runs. Joe Sabal took the loss.

Saturday, July 21 Orioles 18, Sox 4 The Orioles pounded out 22 hits and scored 18 runs to defeat Webster 18-4. James Fuerniss had four hits, including a grand slam, to lead the Orioles. Bryce Novak had three hits, including a double. Zach Sirek hit a pair of doubles, Zack Clark, Austin Bachman, Justin Novak and Dan Novak each had two hits. Marcus Pleiss and Adam Schmitz both doubled for the Sox and scored runs. Max Fierst got the win for the Orioles and John Barten took the loss for the Sox.

Mallards 8, Saints 0 Dusty Beckius threw a complete game shutout to earn the Mallards the number 5 seed in the DRS with an 8- 0 win over St. Benedict. Montgomery took a 4-run lead going into the top of the eighth inning and added four more runs to ice the game. Montgomery had 18 hits for the game. Johnny Krocak went 5-for-5 with two RBIs, Tom Flicek had three hits, two of them doubles. Tyler Bednar had two hits and three RBIs and Mike Kocina had three hits.

Bulldogs 11, Warriors 1 Nathan Berg went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Adam Giesen went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Union Hill defeated Veseli 11-1. Bryan Lindner had two hits for the Bulldogs. Andrew Weiers was the winning pitcher in relief of Derek Masberg. Dan Meger also pitched two innings. Veseli’s Cody Shimota had two hits and scored his team’s only run. Jackson Jirik took the loss.

Sunday, July 22 Saints 8, Orioles 3 St. Benedict recorded an 8- 3 win over New Prague in the season finale. No details were available. Mudcats 14, Aces 3 Prior Lake broke open a close game with a seven-run fifth inning and defeated Lonsdale 14-3. Matt Schmidt got the win, allowing four runs and two hits in five innings. Jake Lehrer had three hits and five RBIs, while Matt Schmidt also had five hits for the Mudcats. Cole Pint’s double was one of just four Lonsdale hits. He scored two of the Aces’ three runs. Tyler Milford took the loss on the mound.

Sox 5, Coyotes 4 Webster scored the winning run in the seventh inning for a 5-4 win over Shakopee. Brandon Sather had three hits and three RBIs for the Sox, and Jared Tucker had two hits. Zach Johnson got the win in relief, with Adam Neuger getting the save. Shakopee’s Jeff Hohenstein had three hits and Alex Pauly and Zak Hoffman had two each. Matt Griebel took the loss.

Irish 3, Muskies 1 The league’s top two teams faced off in the season finale and it was St. Patrick taking a 3-1 win over champion New Market. The Irish scored two runs in the seventh to claim the win. Zach Seurer pitched two innings and took the win, wtih Nick Spitt getting a save. Kyle Rhodus had two hits for the Irish. New Market’s Nick Rost had two hits and an RBI, driving in his brother Nate with the team’s only run. Derek Bergstrom took the loss on the mound.
