‘Show up!’

Minnesota’s primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 14.
This week’s paper includes a story on the upcoming election, including a list of races on the ballot, a list of polling places, and information about early (absentee) voting.
The primary election this year includes big choices to make for Governor, for US Senate, for Attorney General and, in the First District, for the US Congress. There are also local races, for Scott County Sheriff and for Le Sueur County Second District Commissioner.
As Minnesotans have seen over the past 10 years, anything can happen in a close race. A few votes here and there can tip the race in favor of one candidate or another.
If you haven’t made up your mind about who to vote for, you have a little less than two weeks. If you have a favorite candidate, now (the primary election) is the time to step up and vote for that candidate, to make sure he or she is on the ballot come election time in November.
There is a saying, popularized by Aaron Sorkin, creator of the TV Series The West Wing… “Decisions are made by those who show up.” At no time is that more true than during an election. We urge area voters to show up at the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 14, and help make the decisions on who will be on the ballot come November.
