Another Dozinky for the record books

Dozinky, the Czech Harvest Festival of 2021 is entering the record books. This year was a good one for weather as there was plenty of sun and temperatures made for a nice weekend on Friday, Sept. 17, and Saturday, Sept. 18.

More often than not I did have fun, while keeping very busy taking photos and talking to people. I saw some people that I haven’t seen in some time and met new people. It always amazes me how there is a large crowd for the parade and sometimes the crowd stays around.

I also found it incredible how there were lines for food at times. The Ettlins food truck I went back to more than once before I was finally able to find a short line. The Czech Basket was very tasty with a jiternice patty, dumplings in gravy and sauerkraut. I posted a photo of it online and wondered if anyone in my family would be scratching their heads. I was a very picky eater as a kid and I probably would have asked for the dumplings plain and no sauerkraut. It just shows how, for most people, their tastes change over the years.

Covering the Classic Car Cruise and the Parade of Farm Pride definitely allowed me to get my exercise. For the Car Cruise I went from New Prague High School down to Community Baptist Church. Then I had to walk back to get my car at Falcon Ridge Elementary School. I was thankful it was a nice night. Frankly I kind of liked the change in routes for the cruise and the parade. As a photographer both allowed for some different viewpoints. The Showcase of Church Bands brought the day to a close with an assortment of music.
