Blase Bisek, 98

Blase Benedict Bisek, age 98, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital – New Prague. Blase was born on January 30, 1920 in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota to William A. and Mary B. (Snorek) Bisek. He attended country district school, St. Wenceslaus School during the years of his sacraments, and graduated from New Prague High School. He was drafted into the US Army in January 1942 and served with the Tenth Armored ‘Tiger’ Division. He experienced the worst of WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle for Metz. He married Elsie J. Machacek while on leave during his military service on July 15, 1944 in Lonsdale. Blase started working at New Prague Lumber Company at the age of 16 and later worked there as manager his entire life. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and served as past commander in both organizations. He was a member of the K.D.’s and the Sportsmen’s Club. Blase was an avid fisherman and tied his own flies and made his own lures. He also spent many hours in his wood shop making items for family and friends. He enjoyed cards and played a mean game of sheephead as recently as Tuesday, December 18th. In his earlier years, he bowled on a league and loved to dance; he was a member of the P.O.L.K. of A. Club, and was known to travel to Texas just to go to a dance. Sports rounded out his life and he was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. Most of all, however, he treasured time with his family.

Blase is survived by his children, Larry (& Shirlene) Bisek of New Prague, Patricia (& Mark) Whade of Walker, MN, Becky (& Bruce) Wolf of New Prague; brother-in-law, Justin Deutsch of New Prague; sisters-in-law, Agnes Kratochvil of New Prague, Anne Machacek of Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie on December 1, 2008; parents; brothers, Roman, Richard, Wilfred, & Cyril Bisek; sisters, Rita Deutsch & Marion Giesen.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating. Eulogy will be presented in church at 9:45. Visitation will take place Monday from 4-7 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 9:15. Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the New Prague Area Veterans Honor Guard. Lunch will follow at the KC Hall.
