Boys’ basketball go 1-1 for the week

New Prague High School’s boys basketball team split two games last week as the Trojans defeated St. Peter, 69-53, Tuesday, Dec. 13, and lost a close, 59- 52, game to Worthington, Saturday, Dec. 17.

New Prague will host New Ulm tonight (Dec. 22) with a 7 p.m. game. The Trojans will then be at the Lakeville North Holiday Classic, facing Lakeville North at 7:45 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, then Austin at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30. New Prague starts the new year at home against Kasson-Mantorville at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.

New Prague 69, St. Peter 53 The Dec. 13 home game against the Saints was one where New Prague was in charge.

“We were able to build a lead going into halftime by creating some turnovers and getting out and scoring in transition,” said New Prague head coach Dan Peterka.

The Trojans led at the half 32- 25. For the game the team had 12 transition points and 16 turnovers.

“We played well in the second half, and executed on both ends,” Peterka said. “Offensively we were able to get the shots we wanted, and I thought our defense forced them into some difficult situations. I was happy with our effort.”

New Prague was able to hit 54 percent of its two-pointers for the night and hit 16 of 23 free throws. The Trojans also outdid the Saints on offensive and defensive rebounds. New Prague had 15 offensive rebounds to St. Peter’s four and defensively the Trojans had 26 rebounds to the Saints’ 19.
