Erik Puffer, 41

Erik C. Puffer, age 41, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Erik was born a twin on May 28, 1981 in Minneapolis to Dr. Charles W. and Lana R. (Erickson) Puffer. Erik attended New Prague Public Schools with the class of 2001. Living his entire life with disability, Erik’s life was full and meaningful for him and those around him. He was always happy, bringing joy to his family and caregivers. He loved his roommates and could easily be coaxed into giggles and laughter. Needing to be near people, he was the perfect companion. He particularly enjoyed the dogs and puppies that his caregivers would bring in to the group home. He was always thrilled with car rides and loved classical music, perhaps cultivated by listening to his mother on the piano. Through his presence Erik became a model, teaching empathy and inclusion, and was loved by his many caregivers. Though his life could be seen as quiet, the footprint that he left with the lives he touched was vast. The smile that lit up his face and his presence will be sorely missed.

Erik is survived by his loving parents, Dr. Charles & Lana Puffer of New Prague; brothers, Ryan Puffer & fiancé, Lindsay Hofschulte of Lakeville and Brett Puffer of Culver, MN; nephews, Bodie & Jhett; grandfather, Nathan Puffer of Stillwater; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Christopher; grandparents, Shirley Puffer, Herb & Ruby Erickson, Harris Berg.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Hilding officiating. Visitation will take place Thursday from 4-7 PM at Bruzek Funeral Home and at church Friday morning from 10-11 AM. Lunch will follow the service in the fellowship hall at church.
