Family remembering mom, advocate for underdogs

Molly Thul went to work Wednesday to do the work she loved. This week, her family is mourning her unexpected passing.
A New Prague resident, Thul, 42, passed away Wednesday, April 2. She worked as a union representative/business agent at OPEIU Local 12’s offices in Roseville. The union represents workers employed at non-profit agencies and other organizations. A friend, Amy Curry, and Thul’s brother, Nick Weber, said police found Thul at the OPEIU offices Tuesday evening after her family could not reach her. A friend and co-worker, Kelsie Morgan, said the family believes Thul’s passing is being investigated as a medical issue.
Thul leaves behind two children – a son, Logan, 19, and 17-year-old daughter, Allie. A Go Fund Me page has been established to help the family with memorial expenses and to support the single mother’s children.
“She was the most caring, giving person you’d ever want to meet,” Curry said.
She was also devoted to her children, Weber said. When Logan was playing ice hockey in the New Prague Hockey Association, she volunteered her time to support the association. She also stayed in the New Prague area and made the drive to Roseville because her children were more comfortable here, Morgan said.
Thul is remembered as a champion of the underdog. She went out of her way to help people and animals in need. She had taken in stray pets in need of a home and served as a foster home provider through Humble Hounds Dog Rescue of Cottage Grove.
