Fischer will compete in his 3rd X Games
New Prague’s Seth Fischer will be competing for the third time in the X Games in Aspen, CO, January 25-28.
Fischer, 20, is a 2016 New Prague High School graduate and qualified for his first X Games two years ago in the sport of Snow BikeCross. Racers compete on machines that are a cross between a snowmobile and a motorcycle. The machines have one ski on the front and a track system on the back, and compete on a course similar to motocross.
While he was a novice when he qualified two years ago, he is now a seasoned competitor. He competes on the ISOC circuit, which does races across the country. He will be competing this weekend in an event at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.
“The last few years have been a learning experience. There’s been a lot to learn about the sport,” he said. “The other races are big, but the X Games are the big deal. It’s a huge achievement to make this.”
Two years ago, Fischer was invited as an alternate just weeks before the event, and he placed eighth out of 30 riders. He won his qualifier last year to earn a spot at last year’s games, but did not place.
There are a lot of expenses involved in competing in this sport. “Just to get on a track to practice costs $100, and there are a lot of other expenses, not to mention maintaining the equipment,” he said.
