Francis J. Weiers, 92
Francis J. Weiers, age 92, of Union Hill, passed away peacefully at his birth home on October 22, 2022. Francis was born December 31, 1929 to Henry and Cecelia (Wolf) Weiers. On August 25, 1956, Francis married Roselyn Michel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill and made a life on the family farm.
He started motorcycling at age 40 and gave it up at age 80. He never used a road map and claimed he was never lost as long as he had gas in the tank! Francis retired from AMPI in New Prague, MN at age 60 and continued farming an additional 2 years. After retirement, his new hobby was woodworking, which he treated as his retirement job clocking in every morning, coming in for lunch and clocking out at 3 pm. Many woodworking pieces can be found in the homes of his children. He also took up gardening, which worked well with his wife doing all the canning. His favorite pastime in his later years was chopping heads off of dandelions, which he admitted was a losing battle. Over the past year and a half, Francis’ caregiver, Nancy Johnson (along with his children), helped keep him at the home farm. Many polkas, which he played over the years on his concertina, were listened to during this time.
Francis is survived by his children, Ken (Cathy) Weiers, Maureen (Donny) Sandmeyer, Ron (Dianne) Weiers, Mike (Chris) Weiers, Marcie (Mark) Hartman, Dave (Pam) Weiers, Michelle (Chad) Nohner; grandchildren, Kevin (Alicia), John (fiance, Amber), Jenna, Lisa (Dusty), Katelin, Kelsey, Rebecca (Alex), Travis, Calvin, Sydney, Kayla, Evan, Mathew, Claire, Jared; great-grandchildren, Alana, Kensley, Jace, Madeline, and Cole; sister, Viola Michel; sisters-in-law, Leona Weiers and Edna Weiers; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn on October 8, 2015; parents; grandson, David Sandmeyer; brothers, Norbert, Edwin (Speed), Flavian.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 at 1 PM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. Visitation will take place Friday morning from 10:30 – 12:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the church cemetery immediately after Mass.
