Girls’ ice hockey has busy few weeks

It was a busy few weeks for the New Prague High School girls’ ice hockey team as they had a home game and participated in the Schmitz Holiday Classic at the Farmington Schmitz-Maki Arena.

The Trojans won at home, 5-1, Tuesday, Dec. 13, against Minnesota River. New Prague’s next two games, Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Waconia and at home Thursday, Dec. 22, against Holy Angels were postponed.

At the Schmitz Holiday Classic, New Prague suffered three losses as it fell, 5-1, to Chisago Lakes Wednesday, Dec. 28, lost to Owatanna, 5-2, Thursday, Dec. 29, and to Simley, 10-1, Friday, Dec. 30.

The Trojans were scheduled for an away game earlier this week at Waseca Tuesday, Jan. 3. New Prague will be at Bloomington Jefferson Saturday, Jan. 7, for a 7:30 p.m. game. Next week, New Prague will host Chaska/ Chanhassen Thursday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m.

Trojans 5, Minnesota River 1 The Dec. 13, game against Minnesota River started with a scoreless first period. New Prague took the lead in the second period with two goals. Trojan Autumn Olson scored at 7:47 with an assist form Ella Hansen, Hansen later scored unassisted at 10:09.

In the third period the Bulldogs took advantage of a power play with Makenna Andresen scoring with assistance from Adrianna Bixby and Makenna Mueller. New Prague scored three goals a few minutes apart. Alice Kartak scored at 8:28, assisted by Nola Yochim and Avaya Schneider, Hansen scored again at 9:55 on a power play with assistance from Olson and Makayla Prochaska, Kaelyn Borwege scored at 10:10 with an assist from Aftyn Anderson and Callie Kroska.

The Trojans’ Maezie Lock was in the net and stopped 19 of 20 shots on goal. New Prague had 28 shots on the Bulldogs’ net with 23 blocked.
