Glen J. Schoenbauer, 86

Glen J. Schoenbauer, age 86, of New Prague, died peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at his home. Glen was born on April 25, 1937, on the family farm in Helena Township to Joseph B. and Rose L. (Tuma) Schoenbauer. He graduated from St. Wenceslaus Parochial School and New Prague High School and entered the US Army, where he served for 2 years. Glen met Margaret M. Kes at a Halloween dance and the two were married on August 19, 1961 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Farming was Glen’s life; he was a dairy farmer until 1990 when he sold his herd and then raised replacement heifers for other farmers. When that ended, he continued to raise cash crops until he fully retired in 2017.
Glen was a man of deep faith. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in his earlier years and was very active at St. Wenceslaus church throughout his life, serving as a Eucharistic minister, on the Parish Council, and a loyal volunteer in helping to erect the tent for the annual church festival. He also served as a delegate for AMPI. His grandchildren filled his life with love and joy. He infused his work ethic with picking rock in the fields and more importantly, enjoyed attending all the grandkids’ ball games and playing a good game of Euchre with them. He was always game for Euchre with his adult card club.
Glen had a passion for travel! He and Margie traveled to all 50 states and numerous European and Asian countries, including China, the Czech Republic, and Poland. Their most favorite destination by far, however, was Branson, Missouri, which was visited 40-50 times and they were probably one of the first visitors each year when the Christmas shows began. Glen was a kind and gentle soul, always greeting one with a smile and a hearty laugh and his gentle presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margie; children, Kathy Rethwill, Ken Schoenbauer, Kim (Jon) Oesterreich, Kevin Schoenbauer (girlfriend, Anita Steel), Kurt (Paige) Schoenbauer, Kelly Schoenbauer; brother, Lawrence Schoenbauer; 6 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn (Ed) Sticha; sister-in-law, Mae Ann Schoenbauer.
