A great end to the season

Chuck Kajer, The New Prague Times

The spring activities season at New Prague High School came to an end last week, and what an end it was.
On Thursday, June 20, the Trojan baseball team competed for the Minnesota State High School League Class AAAA championship - eventually losing to East Ridge 7-2. The team played in front of a large crowd that weathered a three-hour rain delay, pushing the scheduled 7 p.m. starting time back to 9:30, and the game ended about 11:30 p.m.
At 9 a.m. the next morning, another Trojan team - the Clay Target team - competed at the MSHSL State championships. The five-person team shot in the first flight and hit an amazing 248 of 250 targets in the first round. About two hours later they completed their competition, hitting 484 of 500 targets total. Then they had to wait until all the remaining teams were finished before learning that their score held up and they were crowned the state champions. Later that afternoon, Trojan senior Woodrow Glazer shot 100 of 100 targets to claim his third state individual championship.
This was just the second trip to the state baseball tournament for a Trojan squad - and the first in 39 years. The players showed lot of resilience throughout their postseason run and can be proud of their effort and the way they represented the community both on and off the field. Coach Tanner Oakes, in his first year as head coach, did an outstanding job in leading the players throughout the season.
For the clay target team, this was their second state championship in four years. Coach Curt Sticha said he was amazed at the start his team had, missing just two targets in the first round, and it showed that team members were locked in and ready to compete.
Our website and Facebook pages reported the results of both tournaments, and judging by the many comments the posts received, the community is proud of both teams.
Well done!
