Halloween fun to be held this weekend

Families will be able to choose from several spots around the New Prague area for Halloween fun beginning on Friday, Oct. 29, and most activities on Saturday, Oct. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 31.

At 6 p.m. on Friday, Tapestry Vineyard Church will hold its first ever Elko New Market Pumpkin Run beginning at Old Elko City Hall Park, 265th St. This 5k race is sponsored by New Market Bank and will be timed for those who are running to win. There will also be a costume contest. Those who choose to walk the 5K and children are welcome. Participants will be running or walking amongst lighted pumpkins, pumpkin luminaries and more. Everyone gets a glow necklace, pumpkin and apple cider at the end. There are also medals for best times and best costumes. This is a fundraiser for Hope for the Community and Tapestry’s children and youth programs. People can sign up at http://www.tapestry-church.org/.../2021/10/29/pumpkin-run-5k.

On Saturday there will be several Trunk or Treat options where people decorate the trunk of their vehicle and children can ask for treats. From 2-4 p.m. Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 28983 181st Ave, west of New Prague, will have a Trunk or Treat. From 4-5:30 p.m. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1300 Main St. E in New Prague will have a Trunk or Treat in its parking lot. From 5:30-7:30 p.m. the New Prague Lions Club will be holding a drive through Trick or Treat in the parking lot of Raven Stream Elementary School, 300 11th Ave. NW in New Prague. The New Prague Area Lions Club is sponsoring the event with donations and participation from local businesses. The Lions Club will be accepting goodwill donations to help local families with children dealing with childhood cancer.

On Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church’s Parish Activity Center, 215 Main St. E in New Prague, will be Heavens House Carnival. All are welcome to this event, costumes are encouraged and children should bring a bag for candy. There will also be games and face painting. Those attending are asked to please bring a canned good for the Peace Center, the community’s food shelf. From 3-6:30 p.m. will be Malaween, a family fun event at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living, 1001 Columbus Ave. N in New Prague. There will be family friendly games and prizes.
