New Prague Area School District’s Bus #1 ended up in the west side ditch along Redwing Avenue at approximately 7:07 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16. The bus’s route takes it north along Redwing Avenue.

“Foremost, we are thankful that no one was seriously injured,” said Superintendent Andy Vollmuth in an email to parents who had children on the bus.

Tony Buthe, Director of Educational Services, said school district nurses checked the students to see if they were OK. He added the driver was also not injured. Students on the bus were those attending New Prague High School, New Prague Middle School and St. Wenceslaus School, Buthe said.

“We are in the process of investigating the cause of the incident. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department is also conducting their own investigation,” said Vollmuth.

Responding to the scene of the crash was New Prague Police Department and North Memorial Ambulance. The school district had another bus go to the scene to pick up students.
