Janice Marie (Kidman) Stratton, 79

Janice Marie (Kidman) Stratton, age 79, of New Prague, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with her husband and children at her side on Monday, October 24, 2022, at her home. She was born on January 8, 1943, to Thomas and Edna (Larson) Kidman in Tyler, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Ellsborough Lutheran Church of rural Balaton. She grew up on the family dairy farm in Ellsborough Township and treasured her childhood there. She attended country school and then graduated from Ruthton High School in 1960. She attended Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux Falls, SD, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1963. On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1963, she was united in marriage to Duane F. Stratton. They resided in Pipestone, Minnesota where she worked as a hospital nurse, clinic nurse for several doctors, and nursing coordinator for the Pipestone Medical Group. She loved being a nurse and considered it a blessing to care for people. Jan & Duane spent 44 years in Pipestone, where they raised their children.

After retirement in 2007, they moved to New Prague, Minnesota to begin a career of babysitting grandchildren. Jan loved the Lord and her church families. Her goal was to help people wherever she could – to make their burden a little lighter. She served as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, choir member, Bible study leader, member of the hospitality committee and altar guild. She also enjoyed being a volunteer for various community organizations. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, baking birthday cakes, pies (apple and sour cream raisin were her specialties), and especially lefse. She was an avid MN Twins fan. Jan loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her devotion to faith, family and friends was evident in all she did. The time spent with children and grandchildren was the joy of her life.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Duane; four children, Lorene (Bret) Lewison of Apple Valley; Dr. Steven Stratton of Tucson, AZ; Marla (John) Mayer of New Prague; and Daniel (Rebecca) Stratton of Shakopee; nine adoring grandchildren, Nisse, Samuel & Jackson Lewison; Mason, Trace & Meredith Mayer; and Gabriella, Lauren & Thomas Stratton; and brother Richard (Becky) Kidman of Balaton. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother T. David Kidman, and sister JoAnn Will.
