Ledwein wins MGA event

Taylor Ledwein of New Prague GC defeated Olivia Herrick of Dellwood Country Club 2 and 1 in the final round of the Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship at Faribault Golf Club Wednesday, June 27.

Ledwein, a two-time state high school champion who currently plays at Bradley University in Illinois, tied for first in the qualifying round, then won three rounds to advance to the finals against the two-time defending champion Herrick.

Helped by a birdie on the second hole Wednesday, Ledwein jumped out to an early lead that she would never relinquish. She increased her lead to three after bogeys by Herrick at the third and fifth holes, but Ledwein found trouble herself late on the front nine as her lead was trimmed to one with nine holes to play Wednesday.

Winning the 10th hole with a par, Ledwein regained a 2-up lead but would give Herrick the 12th hole with a bogey. A late bogey by Herrick once again gave Ledwein a 2-up lead and she would close out the match at the 17th with a par.
