Leslie Kyle Thill, 86

Leslie Kyle Thill, age 86, of Jordan, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living after a strong, patient, stubborn and hard-fought battle with multiple health complications: heart damage from sepsis; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; and esophageal cancer.  Born on September 22, 1931 in Chetek, WI, the son of Edward Francis and Bessie Ruth (nee: Lyon) Thill.  Les graduated from Chetek High School in 1949 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952, where he met Maria in Paris, France.  Even before Les asked Maria to marry him, and because he wanted to be closer to Maria and how she worshiped, he converted to Catholicism.  Les married Maria in Rowe, NM in 1953 and settled in Minneapolis, built a house in Hopkins in 1955, and bought the farm in Jordan in 1963.  Les was a dedicated Northern States Power employee for 35 years, working with great integrity, and retiring in January of 1988.  Les was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church since 1963.  Les was elected to and served on the Sand Creek Township Board from 1999 to 2016.  At Valley Bank Minnesota, Les was on the board of directors from 1992 to 1998 and then as a community advisor for Frandsen Bank from 1998 to 2010.  As a veteran, Les served as a member of the Jordan Honor Guard.  Les was a loyal volunteer in many capacities in Jordan.

Surviving Les is his loving wife of 64 years, Maria; his beloved children: Kyle (Kathy) of Jordan; Teresa of Jordan; Loretta (Greg) Dittrich of Woodbury; Joe (Tanya Velishek) of Jordan; and Margaret (David) Nelson of Stewartville; ten grandchildren: Matthew Thill; Andrew Thill; Justin (Mandy) Harrison; Trinity Liebenow; Sarah (Joe) Jannette; Nicholas (Gloria) LaFleur; Mariana LaFleur; Joshua Thill; Mallory Thill; and Katie Nelson, three step-grandchildren, Andrew Dittrich, Emilio Velishek and Ariana Velishek and 5 great-grandchildren:  Joseph Jannette; Grace Jannette; Brody Harrison; Teagan Harrison; Jackson Thill; one brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Barb Thill; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Thill and Bonnie Thill; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Amelia and Tony Lucero; sister-in-law, Donna Martín; brother-in-law, Ronald Martín.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Les is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Jessie Thill; daughter, Kathleen Maria; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Ruth; brother, Pete; brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Mae; brother, Frank; sisters, Dorothy Avery and Patsy June Thill; mother-in-law, Ruby Martín; father-in law, Roman Garcia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Celeste and Henry Garduño; brother-in-law, Preciliano Joseph Martín.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Wagner Funeral Home, Jordan, MN (with the Rosary at 7:00pm) and one (1) hour prior to the Friday, September 14, 2018 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 215 Broadway St. N., Jordan.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Jordan, MN.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to St. John’s Building Fund.
