Local group knits for others
On Thursdays, from 9-11 a.m. people of various ages meet in the Community Connections Room at the Central Education Campus in New Prague to knit and crochet. The group has been meeting since the fall of 2017 and has created a vast array of articles, many of which go to help others.
For members of the military, whether stationed locally in Minnesota or around the world, they have created helmet liners and slippers. Mary Pierce of the group said the USO in Qatar is the current recipient of the slippers and the National Guard will also receive items when deployed. "We also receive additonal slippers from Rocking Horse Farm in St. Cloud and form ladies in Bemidji and Laporte to send on to those needing them on cold desert nights," she said.
The group has knitted hats for children and adults as well as scarves and mittens. Those items have gone to those in need, area food shelves, the homeless or someone coming home from a stay in the hospital and didn’t have proper winter gear. They have also made blankets and hats for various.....
