Lonsdale chooses renovation over new city hall

Though Lonsdale City Hall is not being expanded this year, it will be getting a facelift just the same.

“Staff is recommending a minor remodel,” said Lonsdale City Administrator Joel Erickson at the Lonsdale City Council meeting on October 10. “Essentially we’re creating offices for staff and the new hire.”

Erickson said he met with the city engineer and others to create a floor plan that will accommodate housing all staff on the main floor and allow council and advisory meetings to continue to take place in council chambers.

“It seems like it will work,” Erickson said.

The plans include turning the multi-use room upstairs that currently serves as the conference room, breakroom and city planner’s office, into two separate offices for the city planner and new building inspector. The kitchenette that is in the breakroom would be moved downstairs and situated so that it doesn’t interfere with meetings.

In addition, the city administrator’s office would be expanded by removing the wall separating the office from a closet and moving the current office door to where the closet door is to enlarge the office.

The entire upstairs would also have new carpet and new linoleum at the north and east entrance.

“It’s not a perfect situation, but checks a lot of the boxes,” said councilmember Cindy Furrer.
