Marie A. Flicek, nee Jelinek, 83

Marie A. Flicek, nee Jelinek, age 83 of New Prague, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Marie was born September 2, 1939 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Vladimir and Marie (Snopova) Jelinek.

Marie left Czechoslovakia with her family during WWII. They moved to Canada where they crop farmed for several years.

She married Emil Flicek in West Lorne, Ontario on June 1,1957, and they made their home in New Prague, Minnesota where she spent many years raising their six children. Marie was involved in many local organizations. She enjoyed baking - especially kolache and dumplings for her grandchildren - gardening, and canning the fruits of that garden. She enjoyed playing Uno and spending time with her family and friends. 

Children had a special place in Marie's heart. She enjoyed chaperoning the local school children on field trips to The Old Log Theater and was a big supporter of St. Wenceslaus School. Any time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. 

Upon Emil's passing, June 22, 1987, Marie married Archie Kocina in New Prague on June 29, 2000.

Marie is survived by her loving husband, Archie; children, Jane Sasinek, John, Emil Jr., Ann (Jeff) Kroyer, Jerry (Marie); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Rentmeester;  step-children, Ron (Kathy) Kocina, Ken (Donna) Kocina, John (Julie) Kocina, Tim Kocina, Jean (Doug) Zimanske, Julie (Michael) Deneffe; 17 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emil; son, Tom; parents; brother, Val Jelinek; sister, Bela Juna.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  Visitation will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 7:30 – 10:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery followed by lunch at the KC Hall.
