Marilyn Rose Mallberg, 81

Marilyn Rose Mallberg, 81, of Marana, Arizona entered eternal life on Saturday, February 22. Born on October 7, 1943, in New Prague, Minnesota to Emil and Lillian Petricka, she was the second of three children. Marilyn graduated from Montgomery High School in 1961, as did her future husband, who happened to be 16 minutes older than her. On February 5, 1966 she married Dean Mallberg in Montgomery, Minnesota. They recently celebrated their 59th year together. Over the years, Marilyn worked as a hair stylist and an accountant for various organizations until she retired from the workforce, yet continued to stay busy.
Marilyn and Dean spent many wonderful years together, traveling all over the US and in Europe, spending time with family and friends along the way. During their years, they lived in many fun places before settling in Marana, Arizona where she enjoyed the sun, mountains, and tenderly cared for rose bushes and thriving plants. She was always on the go, maintaining a perpetually clean house, doodling in the kitchen, winning money at the casino, and socializing with numerous friends. When she was sitting, she was usually knitting. She shared her many knitting projects with people she loved and people in need, making baby hats, blankets, scarves, and prayer shawls. She dutifully cheered on the Arizona Diamondbacks through their good times and not so good times. Marilyn was a devout Catholic who gave much of her time and talents to the church, strengthening her faith and participating in several groups. Above all, she was a dedicated wife, devoted mother, grandmother, GG, and wonderful friend.
Marilyn was thoughtful and caring, always having a story to share and cards to send out to friends and family. She was constant, especially for her family, in showing up to celebrate all the meaningful moments in life. When she smiled, she had a sparkle in her eyes, she was sweet but also a little sassy (in the best ways), and carried a bit of spunk with her until the end. Her presence will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Emil, sister-in-law Judi Petricka, and brother-in-law Mike Mallberg. She is survived by her husband Dean, brother Ron (Sharon) Petricka, sister Shirley (Jerry) Kajer, sister-in-law Jan Mallberg, daughter Michelle (Kent) Rieger, son Dean (Kim) Mallberg, five grandchildren: Melissa (Jonathan) Mueller, Kyle Rieger, Hanna, Jenna, and Meagan Mallberg, great-grandson Everett Mueller, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A service will be held in April, in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in her memory to Christ Child Society of Tucson or your local DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
