New Prague to join Metro West Conference in 2021-22

In less than a week, New Prague High School athletics will begin a new era.

The Trojans are leaving the Wright County Conference (WCC) and are now a member of the Metro West Conference.

The Executive Committee of the Metro West Conference voted 5-2 June 10, 2020 to admit New Prague along with Orono and Waconia, two other teams who were previously in the Wright County Conference. Opposing votes for entrance into the conference were cast by Bloomington Kennedy and Robbinsdale Cooper.

These three schools will join current Metro West Conference members: Benilde-St. Margaret's, Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Chanhassen, Chaska, Robbinsdale Cooper, and St. Louis Park.

New Prague was the largest school in the Wright County Conference, which they first played in during the 2014- 15 school year. Waconia and Orono, the other two teams entering the Metro West Conference, were the second and third largest schools in the WCC. New Prague's enrollment in the top four grades is 1,260. Waconia has an enrollment of 1,228. Orono is the third biggest with 936 students.
