Nicols out as NPHS boys basketball coach

New Prague High School boys basketball coach Blake Nicols will not be back for a second year at the helm of the Trojans’ program. Nicols learned last week that his teaching contract would not be renewed for a second year, and that the school would be advertising for a new coach. 

Previously an assistant coach at Andover prior to coming to New Prague, Nicols is also a coach and instructor at Wear Out the Net Basketball Academy. The Trojans went 12-15 during his one-year tenure. 

NPHS is advertising for three new head coaches for 2018-19. Boys hockey coach Chris Lonke resigned as head coach after 10 years, but will continue to teach in the district. He cited family reasons for stepping down. Dance coach Frankie McIntyre resigned after one year. She recently graduated from nursing school and her schedule won’t allow her to continue.
