NP boys head into lacrosse sections with a ‘W’

Heading into the Section 1A boys’ lacrosse playoffs, New Prague needed a win in a big way after a tough loss the previous evening. The Trojans earned exactly what they needed with a playoff game a few days away, ending a three-game skid.
No. 3-seeded New Prague (8-5 overall) opened the section playoffs last night against No. 6-seeded Northfield. Both teams brought an 8-5 record into the game. The winner will play Saturday, May 31, against the winner of No. 2-seeded Lakeville North vs. No. 7-seeded Southwest Christian at a time to be determined at the higher-seeded team.
The section finals are slated for Thursday, June 3, TBD, at the high-seeded team.
Trojans 12, Owatonna 6 New Prague blew a tight game wide open with five goals in the third period on the way to a much-needed win Wednesday, May 21, in Owatonna.
The Trojans and Huskies were deadlocked, 1-1, after the first period and even, 4-4, at halftime. New Prague outscored Owatonna, 5-1, in the third period. The Trojans followed the effort with a 3-1 advantage in the third period.
Playing in his final regular-season game, NPHS senior Colin Buetow scored five times in the win. Buetow has 27 goals and 16 assists in 13 games. Hayden Ungs added three goals. Ungs has 30 goals and 28 assists heading into the playoffs. Brayden Smith added a pair of goals. Hayden Braith and Toby Bleess also scored for NP.
