Patricia M. Marxen, 89

Patricia M. Marxen, age 89, of New Prague, died peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Pat was born on October 4, 1931 in Chicago, IL to John H. and Gaile Emily (LaLonde) Mulligan, Sr.  She graduated from Jordan High School and married Norbert J. “Nubs” Marxen on November 25, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Jordan.  Raising eight children successfully was a full-time job in itself but Pat had various periods of employment in her later years with Queen of Peace, AMPI, and Lide Laboratories.  She was an enthusiastic member of her home extension group through the University of Minnesota and an active member of St. Wenceslaus Church.  Pat was proud of her Irish Heritage, complete with a winning smile and a fun, playful sense of humor.  She enjoyed quilting and sewing, was an avid reader, loved a good game of cards and working puzzles.  She could quote many movie clips from her favorite Hallmark movie channel.  Her devotion to family was a hallmark of her life; her smile and grace will be missed by so very many.

Pat is survived by her children, Laura (Greg) Lien of Two Harbors, Gaile (Mark) Furth of New Ulm, Beth (Rob) Mahle of Coon Rapids, Joan Marxen of New Prague, Robert Marxen of St. Paul, Ellen (Steve) Veith of Brainerd, James (Katherine) Marxen of Webster, Amy (Don) Cheney of Burnsville; grandchildren, Erin, Brian, Emily, Christopher, Jenna, Molly, Sarah, Samantha, Tricia, Josh, & Katie; great-grandchildren, Liliana, Alexander, Finley, & Addie; sister, Helen Eckert of Chaska; sister-in-law, Susan Mulligan of California.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Norbert, on December 17, 2012; grandsons, Andrew Marxen (in infancy) & Paul Cheney; parents; brothers, John H. Mulligan, Jr. & Thomas Mulligan.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10 AM at St. John’s Calvary Cemetery in Jordan with Father Eugene Theisen officiating.  A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held following the service at The Depot in New Prague from 12 – 4 PM.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
