Plenty to be thankful for

This week, as Americans gather for their Thanksgiving feast, they will have plenty to be thankful for.

We can be thankful for our family, who love and support us in our daily lives, who are there for us when we need help, and who, in turn, receive love and support from us when they need it.

We can be thankful for the farmers who spend long hours to grow crops and raise livestock, who make the food that we feast on at Thanksgiving and every other day of the week.

We can be thankful for a nation that supports freedoms - freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of expression.

We can be thankful for our health care system. Though not perfect, it affords us the resources to maintain our health and to recover when illness and injury affect us and our family.

We can be thankful for our nation’s businesses, which employ people to be able to afford the food, the health care and the many products that we are able to purchase in stores.

We can be thankful for teachers, who help educate children. These are the men and women who help our family members become farmers who feed us, who become members of the military, who defend our freedoms, who become doctors and nurses, who help us stay healthy, who become business owners or workers, and who become teachers.

It’s easy to take these things for granted, and it’s important to remember everything we have to be thankful for, especially on Thanksgiving day.
