Scott Co. Deputy Jirik retires after 24 years

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office honored Deputy Duane “Dewey” Jirik on Friday, July 30, as he retired after serving with the department for 24 and-a-half years.
“Deputy Jirik has served the residents of Scott County for over 24 years, working numerous assignments including Volunteer Reserve Deputy, Patrol Deputy, and as a Sergeant overseeing Court Security, Civil Process, Transports, and Campus Security,” said Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen in a press release.
Jirik was also a Civil Process instructor for the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association and completed the Law Enforcement Management Program at the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
“Thank you, Deputy Jirik, for your dedication to our community throughout the years and making Scott County a safer place to live. We wish you a wonderful retirement! You will be missed,” said Sheriff Hennen.
“I started my career in law enforcement with the City of New Prague as a part time officer for approximately 10 years, then I went to the City of Le Sueur starting my full-time career for approximately 2 years and then with Scott County for approximately 24 and-a-half years,” said Jirik. “I have really enjoyed my career in law enforcement.  Dennis Rohloff gave me a chance in New Prague and John Wolf was instrumental in getting me hired in Scott County.  I would like to thank both of them.”
Jirik has also been a public servant as a member of the New Prague City Council. He served as a council member and is serving in his first term as mayor of New Prague.
He noted his retirement will be busy. “My retirement is full of things to do around the house, and I plan on working at Hy-Vee part time along with the duties of mayor.”
